This is not one role, it's two Executive Assistant opportunities, both working closely with Group Managers at the centre of Tasman District Council's work.

About the roles

We are recruiting two Executive Assistants, each supporting a different Group:

Executive Assistant -Three Waters
Supporting the Group Manager - Three Waters, this role sits within a complex and evolving service area delivering stormwater, water and wastewater services. Ideally you'll have experience working in the civil engineering environments/ You'll be a trusted partner through change, providing high‑quality executive support, coordinating priorities, and helping bring clarity and structure to a fast moving environment focused on critical infrastructure and community outcomes.

Executive Assistant - Strategy & Finance
This role supports the Strategy & Finance Group Manager, enabling them to operate at their best across planning, policy, finance and corporate functions. You'll manage diaries and priorities, triage enquiries, anticipate needs and take initiative, including supporting business improvements, projects and other strategic work that shapes long‑term decision‑making for the Council.

Both roles:

  • Act as a key point of contact for the Group
  • Work confidently with internal and external stakeholders
  • Handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism

About you

You're an experienced Executive Assistant (or senior administrator) who brings calm, judgement and a proactive mindset to everything you do. You're organised, adaptable and comfortable working at pace. You are able to shift priorities, anticipate what's needed and make things run smoothly behind the scenes.

You build strong working relationships, communicate clearly and enjoy being relied on. You're practical, solutions focused and take pride in enabling others to do their best work.

What to expect after you apply

Once the vacancy closes you'll be contacted within 7 days as to whether or not your application has been successful.  If you've been shortlisted for an interview, you'll be contacted by one of the People & Wellbeing team to arrange a time to come in and meet with some of the team. 

We typically only do one interview, however depending on the seniority of the role or the role itself, we sometimes require two interviews.  For mid-senior level and team leader/manager roles, you may also be required to undertake psychometric testing.

In your interview, there will be a member of the People & Wellbeing team, the Hiring Manager and either their Manager or one of the senior member's of their team.  Our interview questions are predominantly behavioural and skills-based.

Summer Student Internships

Every year we employ a number of Summer Students across the Council to work for a period of 12-16 weeks over the summer months (mid-November to February). This is a great opportunity to gain work experience in your field of study, advertising begins early July, All applications are to be submitted via our website in July.
