Are you an experienced finance professional with a background in accounts receivable, payables, credit management or revenue services? Do you enjoy leading people, improving processes and finding practical solutions to complex problems?

Tasman District Council is looking for a Team Leader - Revenue & Payables to lead a team responsible for accounts receivable, debt management and accounts payable functions.

This is an opportunity to combine your technical finance expertise with people leadership in a role that is varied, challenging and highly valued across the organisation.

About the role

Reporting to the Business Services & Rates Manager, you'll lead a small team of finance professionals responsible for revenue and payable functions across Council.

You'll:

  • Lead and support a team delivering accounts receivable, and accounts payable services
  • Oversee Council's debt management and debt recovery processes
  • Ensure financial transactions, reconciliations, refunds and transfers are accurate and compliant
  • Monitor workloads, priorities and service delivery across the team
  • Coach, mentor and develop team members to achieve their potential
  • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance efficiency and customer service
  • Provide financial reporting, analysis and operational support to the Business Services & Rates Manager as their 2IC

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing technical finance responsibilities with leadership, relationship management and continuous improvement.

About you

  • Strong experience in finance, accounts receivable, credit management, revenue administration or a similar field
  • Experience leading, mentoring or developing staff
  • Sound financial systems, reporting and reconciliation skills
  • Confidence managing complex customer accounts and debt recovery situations with professionalism and empathy
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
  • A continuous improvement mindset and a desire to make things better
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships

Experience within local government would be an advantage, but it isn't essential.

What to expect after you apply

Once the vacancy closes you'll be contacted within 7 days as to whether or not your application has been successful.  If you've been shortlisted for an interview, you'll be contacted by one of the People & Wellbeing team to arrange a time to come in and meet with some of the team. 

We typically only do one interview, however depending on the seniority of the role or the role itself, we sometimes require two interviews.  For mid-senior level and team leader/manager roles, you may also be required to undertake psychometric testing.

In your interview, there will be a member of the People & Wellbeing team, the Hiring Manager and either their Manager or one of the senior member's of their team.  Our interview questions are predominantly behavioural and skills-based.

Summer Student Internships

Every year we employ a number of Summer Students across the Council to work for a period of 12-16 weeks over the summer months (mid-November to February).
