We're looking for a reliable and community-minded Parking Warden to join our team.

About the role:

Parking wardens assist and guide people in making effective parking decisions as they travel around Tasman.

You will be helping the public to understand the parking system and promote compliance with parking rules using appropriate enforcement procedures. You'll also help to manage the turnover of parking spaces, support the safe movement of people and goods in our urban areas, and assist with monitoring and managing freedom camping activity across the District.

You'll be part of a team that plays a vital role in maintaining public safety and upholding Council regulations across the Tasman Region. No two days will be the same, and you'll need to be comfortable working outdoors, engaging with the public, and confidently applying rules in a fair and respectful manner.

About you:

You will be friendly, organised, and able to handle anything that comes your way in this role. You'll also need good physical fitness, as the role involves walking for extended periods.

An attention to detail, strong observational skills and a valid New Zealand driver's license are also needed. A familiarity with local parking regulations is desirable, although full training will be provided.

What to expect after you apply

Once the vacancy closes you'll be contacted within 7 days as to whether or not your application has been successful.  If you've been shortlisted for an interview, you'll be contacted by one of the People & Wellbeing team to arrange a time to come in and meet with some of the team. 

We typically only do one interview, however depending on the seniority of the role or the role itself, we sometimes require two interviews.  For mid-senior level and team leader/manager roles, you may also be required to undertake psychometric testing.

In your interview, there will be a member of the People & Wellbeing team, the Hiring Manager and either their Manager or one of the senior member's of their team.  Our interview questions are predominantly behavioural and skills-based.

Summer Student Internships

Every year we employ a number of Summer Students across the Council to work for a period of 12-16 weeks over the summer months (mid-November to February). This is a great opportunity to gain work experience in your field of study, advertising begins early July, All applications are to be submitted via our website in July.
