About the role:

We're looking for a Team Leader - Business Services to lead key business functions and help deliver excellent financial services to our community.

In this role, you'll lead a busy and important part of our finance team, overseeing accounts receivable and accounts payable while helping ensure great service for both internal and external customers. You'll provide day-to-day leadership, support and coaching to your team, while keeping a strong focus on quality, accuracy and continuous improvement.

You'll also work closely with the Business Services & Rates Manager as their 2IC, giving you the opportunity to contribute to broader planning, problem-solving and service improvements across the function. It's a great role for someone who enjoys combining technical finance expertise with people leadership and a genuine commitment to delivering excellent outcomes.

About you:

You'll be an experienced finance professional with a solid background in accounting or finance, ideally gained in local government or a similarly complex organisation. You'll bring strong technical knowledge, a practical approach and ideally an accounting qualification or progress towards one.

You'll bring strong finance experience, leadership capability, and the confidence to manage complex customer and debt management situations with professionalism and empathy.

Equally as important, you'll be someone who leads with confidence and positivity. You're organised, approachable and calm under pressure, with the ability to balance competing priorities and build strong relationships across the organisation. You'll enjoy finding better ways of working, supporting others to succeed and delivering a high standard of service in everything you do.

What to expect after you apply

Once the vacancy closes you'll be contacted within 7 days as to whether or not your application has been successful.  If you've been shortlisted for an interview, you'll be contacted by one of the People & Wellbeing team to arrange a time to come in and meet with some of the team. 

We typically only do one interview, however depending on the seniority of the role or the role itself, we sometimes require two interviews.  For mid-senior level and team leader/manager roles, you may also be required to undertake psychometric testing.

In your interview, there will be a member of the People & Wellbeing team, the Hiring Manager and either their Manager or one of the senior member's of their team.  Our interview questions are predominantly behavioural and skills-based.

Summer Student Internships

Every year we employ a number of Summer Students across the Council to work for a period of 12-16 weeks over the summer months (mid-November to February). This is a great opportunity to gain work experience in your field of study, advertising begins early July, All applications are to be submitted via our website in July.
