Fixed Term (12 Months)

We are seeking a Team Leader in a fixed term capacity for our financial accounting team to cover a period of extended parental leave.

About the role:

Reporting to the Finance Strategy and Planning Manager, you will provide technical leadership and guidance across the financial accounting function across financial reporting compliance, taxation, accounting standards and be the subject matter expert.

You will lead, support and develop a small financial accounting team and oversee the preparation of the Annual Report Financial Statements, monitor risks and provide advice while driving improvements in financial processes and controls within your team.

About you:

We are looking for a qualified Chartered Accountant with active membership of Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CAANZ).

You will bring at several years of advanced accounting or audit experience in a large organisation including preparation of, or audit, of Tier 1 group annual financial statements and a solid understanding of IPSAS or IFRS accounting standards. Leadership experience is essential with a proven track record of managing and developing a team of at least three staff, mentoring and fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture. Experience in local government taxation is desirable.

Your strengths will be balanced between your leadership/development skills and your technical expertise in your accounting field. You must be pragmatic and have the ability to influence others and find win-win solutions. We also want to see your excellent communication skills as these will be put to good use in the reports your write and the presentations you give to Council, management or the public.

The annual starting salary for this position is $120,420 - $133,801 + 7% benefits package. Renumeration will be based on skills and experience.

What to expect after you apply

Once the vacancy closes you'll be contacted within 7 days as to whether or not your application has been successful.  If you've been shortlisted for an interview, you'll be contacted by one of the People & Wellbeing team to arrange a time to come in and meet with some of the team. 

We typically only do one interview, however depending on the seniority of the role or the role itself, we sometimes require two interviews.  For mid-senior level and team leader/manager roles, you may also be required to undertake psychometric testing.

In your interview, there will be a member of the People & Wellbeing team, the Hiring Manager and either their Manager or one of the senior member's of their team.  Our interview questions are predominantly behavioural and skills-based.

Summer Student Internships

Every year we employ a number of Summer Students across the Council to work for a period of 12-16 weeks over the summer months (mid-November to February).
