About the role:

This is a pivotal position providing high level executive support that enables our very busy Mayor to perform their duties professionally and efficiently meeting all their legislative obligations and responsibilities. You'll be the trusted advisor and point of contact for the Mayor's office managing information, relationships and workflows with maturity and discretion.

Although there is a lot of autonomy in this role supporting the Mayor, you will be part of the Office of the CEO Team, reporting to the EA to the CEO and both these roles are well supported by our Executive Support Officer ensuring the CEO and the Mayor's offices run smoothly and efficiently.

About you:

We are looking for an Executive Assistant who brings exceptional diplomacy skills, excellent communication abilities and the confidence to consistently meet deadlines. You'll also have experience preparing high level correspondence, agendas, taking minutes, drafting reports and providing comprehensive EA-level support.

You'll manage the Mayor's competing priorities with ease and provide exceptional executive support across the daily responsibilities of this diverse role. You should also have a ‘can do' attitude, be flexible, trustworthy and politically sensitive in your approach and have a willingness to go the extra mile. You will also be an integral part of support to Elected Members as required.

Knowledge of council meeting procedures and local government, as well as a business or office administration qualification would be beneficial however we will provide training to support your success in the role.

What to expect after you apply

Once the vacancy closes you'll be contacted within 7 days as to whether or not your application has been successful.  If you've been shortlisted for an interview, you'll be contacted by one of the People & Wellbeing team to arrange a time to come in and meet with some of the team. 

We typically only do one interview, however depending on the seniority of the role or the role itself, we sometimes require two interviews.  For mid-senior level and team leader/manager roles, you may also be required to undertake psychometric testing.

In your interview, there will be a member of the People & Wellbeing team, the Hiring Manager and either their Manager or one of the senior member's of their team.  Our interview questions are predominantly behavioural and skills-based.

Summer Student Internships

Every year we employ a number of Summer Students across the Council to work for a period of 12-16 weeks over the summer months (mid-November to February). This is a great opportunity to gain work experience in your field of study, advertising begins early July, All applications are to be submitted via our website in July.
