About the role:

In this role you will provide administrative support to the Building Assurance Team to deliver Building Consent Authority (BCA) and Territorial Authority (TA) functions. The work includes receiving and checking building applications, managing customer enquiries, invoicing, checking inspection documentation and issuing building and legislative documents.

The dynamic nature of the workload, which is assigned on a rotating basis, guarantees a diverse and engaging work environment. Support is readily available from the wider Building Support Team, whose members are situated throughout the Tasman Region.

About you:

The ideal candidate is someone who has a proven administrative background with the following skills and attributes:

  • The ability to follow documented processes with a strong attention to detail
  • Great time management skills that enable you to meet tight deadlines without compromising quality
  • Takes a customer -centric approach that provides value in the services they deliver
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and a practical understanding of using databases and cloud-based systems
  • Experience in regulatory environments, particularly relating to building consents or the construction industry is highly desirable

The base salary of this position has a range of $59,000- $65,190 and a 6.2% benefits entitlement. Renumeration will be based on skills and experience of the successful candidate.

What to expect after you apply

Once the vacancy closes you'll be contacted within 7 days as to whether or not your application has been successful.  If you've been shortlisted for an interview, you'll be contacted by one of the People & Wellbeing team to arrange a time to come in and meet with some of the team. 

We typically only do one interview, however depending on the seniority of the role or the role itself, we sometimes require two interviews.  For mid-senior level and team leader/manager roles, you may also be required to undertake psychometric testing.

In your interview, there will be a member of the People & Wellbeing team, the Hiring Manager and either their Manager or one of the senior member's of their team.  Our interview questions are predominantly behavioural and skills-based.

Summer Student Internships

Every year we employ a number of Summer Students across the Council to work for a period of 12-16 weeks over the summer months (mid-November to February).
