We are looking for a leader to bring their expertise and experience to guide the community compliance team.

About the role:

As the Team Leader - Community Compliance, you'll provide day-to-day leadership, mentoring, and professional development to your team, ensuring high standards of service delivery, consistency, and responsiveness. You'll manage the team operations, coordinate the weekly on-call roster, and set clear work programmes and goals - all while reporting on progress and metrics to support informed decision-making.

Things we will trust you with:

You'll be a key authority on a broad range of legislation and bylaws, including the Dog Control Act 1996, Litter Act 1979, Freedom Camping Act 2011, Impounding Act 1955, and the Local Government Act 2002. Your in-depth knowledge will help guide and support your team, and you'll work closely alongside the Team Leader - Regulatory Support to ensure consistent application of regulatory practices.

Vital responsibilities will include overseeing parking enforcement, freedom camping regulations and the operation of the Animal Shelter, ensuring procedures are followed, protocols are maintained, and the health and well-being of the animals in our care are closely monitored.

About you:

You'll bring hands on leadership experience preferably in New Zealand regulatory or an enforcement environment with working knowledge and practical application of key legislation.

You're confident in developing best-practice policies and processes particularly in investigative or enforcement contexts and have experience representing an organisation in legal proceedings or hearings.

What to expect after you apply

Once the vacancy closes you'll be contacted within 7 days as to whether or not your application has been successful.  If you've been shortlisted for an interview, you'll be contacted by one of the People & Wellbeing team to arrange a time to come in and meet with some of the team. 

We typically only do one interview, however depending on the seniority of the role or the role itself, we sometimes require two interviews.  For mid-senior level and team leader/manager roles, you may also be required to undertake psychometric testing.

In your interview, there will be a member of the People & Wellbeing team, the Hiring Manager and either their Manager or one of the senior member's of their team.  Our interview questions are predominantly behavioural and skills-based.

Summer Student Internships

Every year we employ a number of Summer Students across the Council to work for a period of 12-16 weeks over the summer months (mid-November to February). This is a great opportunity to gain work experience in your field of study. Recruitment begins in mid June. All applications must be submitted online via our Vacancies page between mid-June and mid-July each year.
