Why this role?
As Governance Advisor you will provide specialist and high-quality support and advice to Council's elected members and staff on governance matters, agenda, minutes, meeting requirements, and decision-making processes that facilitate the effective management of Council and committee meetings .
The Governance team has a commitment to upholding democratic principles and promoting transparency and accountability in governance.
What you'll bring to the role?
You will bring a minimum of five years relevant local government, policy and administrative experience, preferably in a large organisation. Alongside this experience you will hold an understanding of legislation and procedures including the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act 1987, the Local Government Act 2002, the Local Electoral Act 2001 and Council's Standing Orders.
You will have a demonstrated ability to interpret legislation, experience in mentoring, coaching and training others and a wide range of previous office administration experience.
You will hold excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide advice, guidance and support to elected members and staff. Your strong organisational skills and attention to detail will be key to this role with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
