Bring your practical can-do attitude and experience in data collection to the Environmental Monitoring team who are focused on collecting accurate data from a range of environments including, groundwater, rivers and lakes, sea level, water quality and meteorology.

Great Job:

You will get involved in the design, construction, and maintenance of monitoring sites, plus operate a wide variety of technology including data loggers, remote control boats and drones as you maintain the environmental monitoring network. While you will be travelling the rivers, mountains and coastline of the district that boasts high sunshine hours, there will also be an equal amount of office-based work. You will ensure instruments meet calibration, process data for quality assurance and contribute data to the environmental data archive. You will have the opportunity to be involved in data analysis and maintaining data telemetry systems.

About you:

This role suits someone who enjoys the outdoors; we work in a variety of environments and terrains which can be physically demanding, so you'll need to be a confident swimmer and have a reasonable level of fitness. You'll like working autonomously and are also happy to share ideas with and work in a team. Ideally you will have a minimum of three years' environmental data collection experience. However, those who have practical experience in electronics or a trade qualification and an aptitude for maths/physics are also welcome to apply.

Remuneration appropriate to level of competency, with alternatively a Trainee or Senior Environmental Monitoring Officer role possible.

What to expect after you apply

Once the vacancy closes you'll be contacted within 7 days as to whether or not your application has been successful.  If you've been shortlisted for an interview, you'll be contacted by one of the People & Wellbeing team to arrange a time to come in and meet with some of the team. 

We typically only do one interview, however depending on the seniority of the role or the role itself, we sometimes require two interviews.  For mid-senior level and team leader/manager roles, you may also be required to undertake psychometric testing.

In your interview, there will be a member of the People & Wellbeing team, the Hiring Manager and either their Manager or one of the senior member's of their team.  Our interview questions are predominantly behavioural and skills-based.

Summer Student Internships

Every year we employ a number of Summer Students across the Council to work for a period of 12-16 weeks over the summer months (mid-November to February). This is a great opportunity to gain work experience in your field of study. Recruitment begins in mid June. All applications must be submitted online via our Vacancies page between mid June and 31 July each year.
