Are you an environmental planner ready to take the next step in your career, or a recent graduate just starting out? The Tasman District Council is a Unitary Authority managing both District and Regional Council consenting functions. This offers our team exposure to a wide variety of consents, including subdivision, land use, discharge, and water permits.

This position will be responsible for providing advice and information relating to regional and earthworks resource consent applications. There will be plenty to challenge you as you deal with the processing of stormwater and wastewater discharges, water takes, and earthworks activities.

RMA experience is not essential, but you will have a tertiary qualification in planning, resource management, science, engineering, or related field. You will be able to competently use a computer, prepare reports, and work with people from the keyboard, over the phone, and kanohi ki te kanohi (face to face). Ideally, you will understand contaminant and discharge-related laws and practices, and have water management and wastewater discharge experience but, if not, we will get you up to speed. Some working knowledge of subdivision consents would be an added advantage.

We want someone who is looking for an opportunity to expand on their skill set, while also contributing positively to the team. Being a confident and effective communicator with the ability to present clear information to others within Council and the public is a must. If you are someone who can make the technical simple, while not losing sight of the detail, then this is the role for you.

In return, we offer ongoing professional development, a day off for your birthday, flexible and remote working options, discounted rates for our local pool and fitness club facilities, a corporate clothing allocation, relocation assistance, sick leave from day one, and a generous benefits package to suit your preferences.

If you are keen to help shape Tasman and its environment for current and future generations, then this is the job for you. We offer a friendly and supportive working environment that will allow you to kick start or advance your professional career profile, while also providing flexibility to achieve a successful work-life balance. Apply today!
