Do you want to develop your policy expertise in a Unitary Authority context? Our district is experiencing high levels of growth, providing Council with a variety of development challenges and opportunities.

Based in our Richmond offices we are looking for a motivated individual with policy and district planning experience, including exposure to policy development. The primary focus will be on urban and rural development meaning you will have the opportunity to work on a range of policy topics. We are a small dedicated environmental policy team with a diverse portfolio of policy issues, so you will also have various opportunities to get involved in other areas.

Your knowledge of a wide range of environmental legislation, policy and plan making and consent processes will be highly valued, along with the ability to work autonomously and under tight time constraints. You will also apply excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills, with a dedicated commitment to customer service when dealing with a range of people internally and externally.

We are open to appointment at intermediate or senior level, you may be a policy planner with some relevant experience or a senior looking to progress your career as Principal Planner. As a Principal Planner you will be a seasoned policy professional, able to see the ‘bigger picture' while being a great communicator and mentor, experienced in all phases of policy lifecycle and possessing an extensive understanding of the RMA including local authority responsibilities and functions. Another key part of the role will be to lead a number of policy related projects such as the current review of our Regional Policy Statement and Resource Management Plans. Summer students

NMIT Student Employment Scholarships

Tasman District Council supports the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) Employment Scholarship Scheme to provide young people with a pathway from school to the workplace. The NMIT Employment Scholarship scheme is for business administration students. It works in a similar way to an apprenticeship with students working full or part-time in a business administration role while studying in a supported class for three hours a week at NMIT to gain business administration skills and a qualification at the end of it.
