We are seeking someone with a practical can-do attitude to join our Environmental Monitoring team, responsible for collecting a wide variety of environmental data.

This full time role is based in Richmond, you will be part of a group who collects and archives information about river flow, groundwater, rainfall, water quality and air quality to support programmes across Council and the wider community.

The position offers plenty of variety, which means we are looking for a diverse skill set and the ability to problem solve. You will have experience in environmental monitoring and hold a relevant qualification such as a university degree or appropriate tertiary diploma. We use a variety of electronic equipment and data loggers to collect information so having strong practical skills in electrical or telecommunications would be a real advantage, along with an aptitude for maths and physics. It is essential that you are computer literate and embrace learning new technology

The fieldwork extends across a variety of environments and terrains which can be physically demanding, you need to be a strong swimmer and confident around rivers and working at heights. However, it's not all outside work! The office work is a significant component of the role and involves data management, calibration of instruments, asset management and liaison with landowners.

NMIT Student Employment Scholarships

Tasman District Council supports the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) Employment Scholarship Scheme to provide young people with a pathway from school to the workplace. The NMIT Employment Scholarship scheme is for business administration students. It works in a similar way to an apprenticeship with students working full or part-time in a business administration role while studying in a supported class for three hours a week at NMIT to gain business administration skills and a qualification at the end of it.
